Dolls de Mexico

I was just a teenybopper when I went to Mexico
to help build homes. I was hardly mature enough to understand
just how different life could be for our neighbors South of the border.
What I remember best from the trip was the laughter in the streets,
even in a small town their was so much noise.
Children in the streets kicking balls, street venders selling
sweet bread from the trunk of their cars, music flowing in all directions.
I loved the food, and unlike my friends who were eating pb&j sandwiches
I was in the kitchen with our host family.
I recall being the only one willing to eat such delicacies,
as cow tongue and pigs heart.

It was on that trip that I fell in love with the vibrant
folk art of Mexico.
Wooden turtles with bobbing heads. hand painted clay piggy banks,
and handmade fabric dolls, just to name a few.

Our son is Mexican and I want to educate him and our family,
of the rich traditions and history of the Mexican people.
It is all this that inspired my latest set of embroidery designs.

I started off wanting to make tea towels,
but the more I worked on the collection
the more I fell in love with everything that represented
traditional Mexicana.
I was going to need a much bigger canvas...

My kiddos bathroom was the perfect place
for such a colorful and whimsical theme.
I only wish there was more wall space.
I can just picture an entire wall covered in vintage
pin the tail on the donkey posters.

I use Sulky's printable stabilizer
just because it's so quick and easy.

I'm so please with this set,
I put so much time and thought into each design
and I'm already playing around with a few ideas for a coordinating collection.

You can find these and my other embroidery and digital kits
exclusively at Kitschy Digitals.

Old School

yeah, me!
I finally finished and listed a new digi kit
This one took me FOR-EV-ER
(totally had a Sandlot flashback).

You will get all the files shown above
+
I've set up a multi-page PDF for quick and easy printing.
"Papers" have been scaled down to 6x6"
and journal cards are 3x4"
for my fellow Project life peeps.

Soon, but I dare not say when...
with the babies it's pointless
to set deadlines for myself.
But in time, I'll be re-opening my etsy shop
where I'll be selling prints of some of my journal cards.
For those who would rather not do it themselves.
This set and a few others just came back from the printers
 and they are amazing!!!
My next order will include 6x6 prints of my paper designs.
I have many other fun ideas for the shop
but I'll leave that for another post.

Babies are starting to grumble...
I guess nap time is over.

You can find my new kit
available exclusively @ Kitschy Digitals!

Take care friends, and best wishes to you who are
starting to send your sweet little ones back to school.
i'm kinda jealous... nap time is just not enough time for me to
rest, clean, work, and play!

Our Summer Style

It's sad that thrift stores can't sell many of the vintage things we so love.
Vintage children's book because of possible lead poisoning is one such example.
I hate to even ponder for too very long on what treasures are deemed "unsafe"
and chucked into the recycle pile each and every day.
I'm certainly not saying I let me babes teeth on vintage books and toys,
but I do so very much love to read them together
and use them in my decorating and crafting.
One thrift store in our area has a free "scrap" wood area where you can rummage
through for items deemed unsafe or unsellable.
Boy was I thrilled when I came across two crib ends a few weeks ago.
I now have 5 crib ends in my possession!

I use them in the yard, as chalkboards,
and this one I just finished painting
for my summer mantle.

This arrangement really brings together a lot of my favorite things

Milk glass, swirly tapered candles, and this fab
1970s plastic wreath.

But of all the vintage items I own
I really love my collection of vintage kids clothes the most.
I've been collecting for over 10 years!
That's way way way before I was blessed with my two babes!

This handmade romper just barely fit today.
I can't believe how fast my little pickle is growing.
I'll probably cut this one up and use in my crafting,
It's got stains on top of stains but still isn't it just the sweetest!?

Petey is wearing a handmade romper as well.
Yeah, it was probably made for a girl,
but who cares.
He looks boyishly handsome to me!

Cowboys Like Us

After a long day of being cooped up in the house with these two all-day,
I decided that we needed a change of scenery
and what better way to enjoy the outdoors than to play dress up
and take some pictures.
Well I'm sure they would have perhaps had more fun
playing at the park or even going on a walk,
but they were good sports and were such great camera hams.

I can't believe this little man is going to be 2 soon!
He really is a "little man", working so hard to be just like his daddy.
I love watching him explore the world around him,
learning new ways to drive me bananas
and making it near impossible to
get anything done without his "most helpful"assistance.

Oh my gosh, then I have this little pickle!
Trouble, Trouble, Trouble!!!
She has daddy wrapped around her finger,
and momma pulling her hair out.
She is so us it's darn near scary!
p.s. this is her first time sporting piggy tails!
~
Thanks "Great" Aunt Kym for loving us
and for the sweet dress baby girl is wearing.
Oh and for letting me barrow your amazing backyard today
(even though you weren't home to even know it).

A Pretty Mantle, A Messy Home

Who has time for laundry and chores when there is much more fun
to be had crafting, thrifting, and decorating.
Yes, my home is a disaster,
but if you can get past the piles, and the obstacle course
of toys on the ground
then you are very welcome to our happy chaos - our home!

We tend to showcase our life through a tiny pinhole.
We direct the attention only to that what makes us happy and feel safe.
But I'm hear to say - "Bull****!"
Is your home sparkly clean? Probably not,
well either is mine.
Much like the world of fashion,
bloggers tend to "crop" out the true reality
of what our lives are really like.

This is my life!
These two kiddos are my 24 hour, 7 day a week reality.
Yes they are super cute, and yes I love them to pieces,
but boy howdy are they exhausting.
I'm tired! All the time!
But mostly I'm tired of being upset with myself
for the things I don't get done in a day.

I want need to stop worrying so much about what others think
and start enjoying my life in a fashion that is true to myself.

I know this post is a bit off topic...
but these are the ideas that are rolling around in my silly noggin today.
Tomorrow is the 4th, family will be coming into town,
and despite my best efforts the house is not nearly ready
WELL SO WHAT!
If you love me - you love my mess!

At least my mantle is pretty, right?

A Magical 1st Birthday

I can't imagine any mother
welcoming their babies first birthday
without a mixed bag of emotion.
Happy, excited, sad, baffled,
you name it - i've felt it
and am probably still in the midst
of sorting through it.
But alas, it's here,
my baby girl is a full fledge toddler,
just starting to take her first little penguin like steps.
Oh boy, I'm going to have two little people
running full bore in opposite directions in no time at all!

Baby girls party was a giant labor of love,
of which I am so very much indebted
to my friends and family.
From pom-poms, to house work this party
could not have happened without them.

My amazingly talented mother-n-law
brought Abby Cadabby to life with this
amazing cardboard cut out.
I'm still in awe and shock at how spectacular
she turned out!!!

My sister-n-law made the birthday hat
completely covered in teeny tiny fabric yo-yos.
-and I thought I was the yo-yo queen?!
My little pickle however, was not as enthusiastic
as she ought to have been.
Took 3 days just to get this one shot of the hat on her
sweet yet stubborn little head!

Poor daddy (our prince charming) missed out on most of the party,
he was busy cooking up a 20lb turkey and ham along with all the fixings.
So many friends and family came and celebrated with us
that all the food was gone
before hubby or I ever got a chance to sit down and eat!

Luckily there was cake!
Well not this cake,
this cake got good and smashed!!!

The video is epic, this girl did not hold back!!!
I was one very proud momma!

She could have been happy all day
squishing frosting and cake through her fingers,
and licking icing off the plate.

Cookie Monster would have described her
 as "good enough to eat!"
and in the words of our beloved friend
Abby Cadabby

*
Annalea, mommy thinks
"You're MAGIC,
yes you are!!"

And so life moves forward,
in just 4 short months we will be celebrating
baby boy's 2nd Birthday
And yes, I am already planning.

The BIG One

We are just one week from celebrating miss Annalea's
1st BIRTHDAY!
My head is a whirl this evening as I try to process
just how amazingly quick and wonderful this past year has been.
My baby girl is growing up,
I see it in the little things she does each day
and boy howdy is she a  little spit-fire.
She's a happy baby, but only if things are going 100% her way.
Lord help us, I can't even begin to imagine what her terrible two's
will be like. This girl is a screamer, has been sense day one.
As you can see I had to stop at 9 months with the monthly picture,
as little stinker just wouldn't sit still any longer - not even for a second!

A few fun facts:

Baby girl LOVES Sesame Street!!!
She will be as busy as can be but the second she hear's
Murray's voice she parks her little butt.

She was in Premie clothing her first two months
and has been wearing 18m the past two months

Still NO teeth!

She can hold her own with her "big" brother"

She will not take a nap!!
It's pretty much been that way from the start.
(did I mention she is stubborn?!)

She is a daddy's girl
she especially loves to Facetime with daddy
when he is out of town

She loves animals and outdoors.
As much as I hate to admit it
she may just turn out to be a tom boy.

I never got around to posting some of our easter pictures.
Can you believe this sweet dress was made by my grandmother?
It is seriously gorgeous and sewn to perfection.
Most of the dresses she made I completely wore out as a child
but I'm lucky to have a handful of these beauties.

I made the easter backdrop earlier this year using vintage coloring pages.
If anyone is interested in the details, just let me know
and I can put together a little tutorial

and of coarse my little fella is growing up
quicker than I would like too.
He is so so hard to take pictures of,
but I was lucky this time to get a few
sweet smiles with no blurring.

Well it's late, I best be off to get some much needed sleep.
Keep an eye out, my next post should be the
birthday party!!!
